Waterfire Providence, May 26, 2018
Wikipedia calls Waterfire "simultaneously a free public art installation, a performance work, an urban festival, a civic ritual, and a spiritual communal ceremony." The felt experience is only hinted at by pictures and words. If you have ever enjoyed quiet relaxation with friends in the dark by a campfire, recall how time slows down in a meditative spell of well being and fellowship. Now imagine that with 40,000 people. It really happens, every few weeks, summer and fall, in downtown Providence.
We volunteered to staff a booth with some pinboard maps, a supply of maptacks and sign "Where are you from? Insert a maptack!" The enthusiasm and interaction did not let up for the entire evening.
